Habakkuk the Hamster

A thankful heart is always full

Meet Habakkuk, a little hamster who has learned that having enough isn’t about how much you can store—it’s about trusting the God who provides. As evening falls over the grasslands of Syria, Habakkuk sets out to gather food, filling his amazing cheek pouches with seeds, berries and nuts. Nearby, his friend Snowball is gathering too—but she never seems able to stop. Her burrow is overflowing, yet she is still worried that tomorrow she might not have enough. Habakkuk understands that preparing is wise, but he has learned something Snowball hasn't: tomorrow doesn't have to be carried today. Through the story of the prophet Habakkuk, he shows his friend that even when the future is uncertain, God never changes—and our joy and peace can be found in trusting Him. A gentle, humorous story that helps children understand worry, contentment, thankfulness and what it really means to leave tomorrow safely in God's hands.

What Children Will Learn

Through Habakkuk and Snowball's story, children will learn that preparing wisely and worrying are not the same thing. God wants us to work faithfully and do what we can today, without trying to carry tomorrow's problems before they arrive. They'll discover that having more things doesn't necessarily bring greater happiness or peace. Snowball has far more stored away than Habakkuk, yet Habakkuk is the one who is content because his security isn't found in what he has—it is found in trusting God. Most importantly, children will be reminded that their Heavenly Father knows what they need, cares for them, and can be trusted with tomorrow.

A Thankful Heart Is Always Full Habakkuk teaches us that true joy does not depend upon having everything we want or knowing exactly what tomorrow will bring. The prophet Habakkuk chose to rejoice in the Lord even when his circumstances looked uncertain because he knew that God Himself was his strength.
